Don’ya Ukraine’s Kitchen to Be Featured on Dragon’s Den

What began as a donation centre has grown into a thriving kitchen run by Ukrainian newcomers in Edmonton. Now, DON’YA Ukraine’s Kitchen is taking its story—and its signature perogies—to national television with a feature on Dragon’s Den. From war-torn beginnings to dreams of expansion, this is a story of resilience, tradition, and bold ambition.

What began as a donation centre during the early days of the war in Ukraine has grown into something much greater: a vibrant, refugee-run kitchen in Edmonton called DON’YA Ukraine’s Kitchen. One of the cooks, Nataliia, arrived in Canada in January 2023 and joined DON’YA a few months later, bringing with her the strength of survival and the comfort of home-cooked meals.

Now, the story of DON’YA is reaching national audiences. The team is set to appear on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, showcasing their authentic Ukrainian dishes—and the powerful story behind them. Co-founder Janice Krissa was encouraged by supporters across Canada and beyond to take this bold step. With plans to expand to 300 locations in the next 10 years, the kitchen is dreaming big while staying rooted in tradition.

From varenyky and cabbage rolls to dishes still under wraps, DON’YA is more than a food business—it’s a living tribute to resilience, heritage, and hope. The Dragon’s Den episode is set to film in May and air between October and January.
