DON’YA Ukraine’s Kitchen has been one of Edmonton’s greatest feel-good food stories — founded as a place for Ukrainians displaced by war to find their footing, serving sausages, perogies, cabbage rolls, and pastries made with love. As a takeout-only business, it pulled in $30,000 in revenue in just its first 30 hours of sales.

Now DON’YA has taken the next natural step: the kitchen is open for lunch six days a week, welcoming people to sit down and stay a while. On a cold Edmonton afternoon, the Sampler Plate is everything you need — and the sunflower paintings on the wall serve as both a national symbol of Ukraine and a quiet reminder that spring will always come.
