From the very beginning, the Free Store for Ukrainian Newcomers was built on the idea that community takes care of its own. One early visitor, Anastasiia Klymenko, arrived in Edmonton having fled Kyiv on the second day of the conflict — and by her second day in Canada, she was already volunteering at the store to help others in the same position she’d just been in: “I am blessed to be here. People here are so great and nice, but at the same time, I feel so guilty because a lot of my friends are still in Ukraine.”
