What do perogies, community, and second chances have in common? At Don’ya Ukraine’s Kitchen in Edmonton, everything. Born from a Free Store for Ukrainian newcomers, this heart-filled food venture now employs over 18 newcomers, produces thousands of traditional dishes each week, and empowers refugees on their journey to permanent residency — proving that good food can build more than just full bellies. It can build futures.

After opening the Free Store for Ukrainian Newcomers in Edmonton, Jorgia Moore quickly discovered that food — especially perogies — could play a powerful role in welcoming and uplifting displaced Ukrainians.
What started as a handful of perogy orders soon exploded into a full-fledged culinary venture. With help from community members and local chefs, Don’ya Ukraine’s Kitchen now produces thousands of handmade dishes weekly, employing over 18 Ukrainian newcomers and providing essential work hours for permanent residency.
Beyond feeding people, Don’ya is building a future — one perogy at a time.
